KNAU and public radio continue to be widely-valued public resources even as the State of Arizona is in a deep budget crisis and the U.S. economy is in recession. During fiscal year 2008, KNAU retained the lofty position of the number-one-ranked morning drive radio station in our region. As other news media in northern Arizona downsized or disappeared, KNAU and NPR remain vital and strong.
KNAU maintains cash reserves equivalent to 43% of annual cash operating expenses. Fiscal year 2009 is financially challenging, with fiscal year 2010 slated to be even more difficult. With strong support from the public, KNAU is poised to navigate -- and report on -- the economy's uncharted territories.
