Katelyn graduated from Northern Arizona University in May 2009 with a degree in Journalism.  She interned at KNAU for two years before being hired. In her college career, Katelyn was Managing Editor of The Lumberjack, NAU's student newspaper and also started radio news programming at KJACK, NAU's student radio station. Katelyn has been in love with journalism since high school and was named the 2005 Arizona Newspaper Association High School Journalist of the Year.  She has an affinity for public radio, technology, running and bakeries.

Protestors at Arizona State Capitol Face New Restrictions

Beginning this morning, protestors at the state Capitol are going to face some new restrictions. Arizona Public Radio's Howard Fischer explains.

On a party-line vote, the Republican members of the Legislative Council voted Thursday to ban bullhorns by those marching between the House and Senate. House Speaker Andy Tobin said the devices are not only disruptive to the legislative process but also interfere with the rights of others. One of those is Kathryn Kobor who told lawmakers she has come to the Capitol for years to protest illegal immigration.

More snow forecast through Saturday evening

Yesterday's snowfall in northern Arizona caused major traffic delays for vehicles traveling on both I-17 and I-40. I-40 was closed for hours with multiple vehicle collisions. Currently, both interstates are opened but an additional one to three inches of snow is expected to fall today, according to the National Weather Service.

An additional two to four inches are expected overnight for elevations above 7,000 feet and tomorrow a predicted three to seven inches of new snow accumulation is forecasted. 

Flagstaff Unified School District is closed today. Northern Arizona University and Coconino Community College are both opened and operating on a normal schedule.

Winter storm brings heavy snowfall to northern Arizona and road closures

A winter storm moving through the region is expected to drop six to nine inches before Friday morning. I-40 east bound at mile post 188.5 Flagstaff - west bound lanes reopened, east bound closure now at MP 185.26

I-40 will not be closed at US 93. However, ADOT is suggesting delaying trips or seeking alternatives if possible. I-17 northbound was closed earlier but is now opened according to information from ADOT.

The winter storm advisory is in effect until 11:00 a.m. Friday. Winter driving conditions are expected with heavy delays possible.

A wind advisory is also in effect for the upper Little Colorado River Valley around St. John’s and the White Mountains through 4:00 p.m. this afternoon according to the National Weather Service.

Navajos push green jobs
