Arizona Mother Charged After Children Found In Filthy Home

Mohave County Sheriff's Office

Authorities say an Arizona mother is facing child abuse and drug charges after her three children were found in a filthy home infested with mice and bedbugs.

Bullhead City police say they were called to the home Thursday to help code enforcement officers with a yard abatement. They found deplorable and unsafe conditions, with animal feces and trash everywhere as well as exposed wiring and a strong odor of marijuana.

Detectives served a search warrant on Cherice Marie Wheeler's home and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in her bedroom.

State child welfare workers placed the children with a family member as Wheeler was arrested and booked into the Mohave County jail. Police say charges against the father, Jeffrey Lewis II, are pending.

It wasn't immediately clear if the couple had attorneys.
