Country News Bureau. Dan has collected awards for his reporting on the growing
importance of the Native American vote, the long tradition of running on the Hopi
reservation, and the search for the perfect swimming hole. He's also a national
Murrow Award winner in radio documentary for his story on gay Native America for
Outright Radio. Dan also writes regularly for publications including High Country
News and American Indian Report magazine. When he's not exploring the canyons and

Howard Fischer State Capitol Bureau Correspondent
Howard Fischer is a veteran journalist who has reported on state
government and legal affairs since 1982, the last 14 for Capitol Media Services.
Prior to that he has been a reporter for the Phoenix Business Journal, New Times and
the (Tucson) Arizona Daily Star. He also served as managing editor of the Bisbee
Daily Review. Prior to moving to Arizona in 1974, he was a reporter for the
Syracuse (N.Y.) Post-Standard. His employment experience has not been entirely in
journalism. On moving to Arizona, while picking up courses toward a graduate degree,

newspapers around the state. He also is a regular participant in the Friday
"journalists roundtable'' edition of Horizon, seen on KAET-TV. Fischer and his
wife, Gabe, live in Laveen, a small unincorporated community on the southwest edge
of Phoenix that has not been swallowed up by the city -- yet.

Originally from Connecticut, Mark came to Arizona in 2004. Before working with KNAU, he reported on just about everything in Camp Verde for the local newspaper there.
