And now an update on what has become a tragic 24 hours in the U.S. Twenty-nine people are dead after two mass shootings - one in El Paso, Texas, and the other early today in Dayton, Ohio. In Dayton, the suspected shooter is dead after killing nine people and wounding dozens more. Many of them were in line outside a bar downtown. Officials say he was wearing body armor and extra gun magazines. He was killed at the scene by police. Dayton's mayor, Nan Whaley, said she was heartbroken.
El Paso is also grieving. Twenty people were murdered and 26 injured at a shopping area yesterday. That suspect is a young white male, and he is now in custody. Investigators are examining whether he wrote a documented - a document posted online shortly before the attack. This manifesto expresses anti-Hispanic sentiments and white nationalist ideology. It also says, quote, "race-mixing is destroying this nation," and it praised the killing of 51 people at a New Zealand mosque earlier this year. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
