Event Description

As part of the Flagstaff Festival of Science's Lunar Legacy Lecture Series, Historian David Portree will discus NASA's plans post-Apollo on Wednesday, August 14 at Coconino Community College Lone Tree Campus. The Apollo Program created a $25-billion space infrastructure with enormous promise. In December 1972, however, American astronauts left the Moon for the last time. Historian David S. F. Portree, formerly with NASA and USGS and now a member of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter team at ASU-Tempe, describes 1960s plans for our future in space and discusses why, after half a century, the promise of Apollo remains unfulfilled.
