Governor's PAC Spends Big as Election Nears

Gage Skidmore

Voters in select districts across Arizona can expect to get more political mail from the Governor.

JanPAC, Governor Jan Brewer’s political action committee has reported spending another $65,000 on mailings.

That’s according to the most recent records from the Federal Election Commission.

More than $35,000 went to print mailers opposing Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick.

She’s running for the 1st District Congressional seat, and is in a close race with Republican Jonathan Paton.

JanPAC spent nearly $30,000 on mailers in support of Republican Martha McSally.

She’s challenging Democrat Ron Barber for the 2nd District seat held by former Representative Gabrielle Giffords.

This recent spate of JanPAC spending comes about 10 days after it reported spending $23,000 in mailers opposing 9th District Democrat Kyrsten Sinema.

Some of the largest donors to JanPAC include Magellan Health Services, a publicly traded health management company, and Rural Metro Fire, a private fire company with operations in Scottsdale.

Both donated $25,000 to the Governor’s PAC.

$10,000 donors include Chanen Construction, developer Diamond Ventures, and Yellowstone Circle Properties.
