Hikers Rescued From Munds Canyon

Coconino County Sheriff's Office

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office rescued four hikers from Munds Canyon south of Flagstaff last Friday.

The group of one adult male and three juveniles split off from a larger group of hikers, intending to hike Munds Canyon from 1-17 to Oak Creek. They became exhausted while attempting to return to their vehicle on I-17. A search and rescue team assisted the hikers out of the canyon using a rope rescue system. None of the hikers required medical attention.

The Sheriff's Office reminds outdoor users to carry extra food and water and appropriate safety equipment, and to leave a detailed trip itinerary with a trusted person.
