Arizona Reports Nearly 12,000 New Known COVID-19 Infections

AP, file

Arizona health officials today reported nearly 12,000 new known cases of COVID-19 and one more death from the virus.

It comes amid a major spike that’s pushed the state’s total number of infections past 420,000. More than 7,300 people have died since the beginning of the pandemic. Overall hospitalizations are at their highest point since the COVID surge over the summer, and total intensive care unit occupancy is at 90% statewide.

On Monday officials confirmed 11,795 new known infections as the first doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine arrived in Arizona.
