Park Service Finds 'No Significant Impact' For Grand Canyon Telecommunications Plan

National Park Service officials say a proposal to expand telecommunications in Grand Canyon National Park won’t have a significant impact on the area.

It follows an environmental assessment and public comment period after the plan was proposed last year. It’ll extend cell and broadband service in the park, which officials say is often slow or nonexistent.

The plan proposes the construction of new towers, small-cell sites and fiber optic communications cable in already developed areas. Officials say it’ll bolster park operations, emergency response, law enforcement and education.
