Arizona passed the grim milestones Wednesday nearly 13 months after the outbreak began in the state. The Department of Health Services reported more than 1,300 more positive cases along with over 80 new deaths Wednesday.

Arizona was a national hotspot for COVID during both last summer’s surge and the larger one during the fall and winter after the holidays. New confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths, however, have declined since last month.
