Arizona To Expand COVID-19 Vaccine Ordering To Doctors, Clinics

AP, file

Arizona health officials are expanding the availability of COVID-19 vaccines to doctors’ offices and local healthcare clinics.

Starting Monday providers registered with the Department of Health Services will be allowed to order 200 doses directly from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It bypasses county health departments and applies to nearly 1,200 providers statewide. They’ll receive the Moderna vaccine because of its simpler storage requirements.

Health Services Director Doctor Cara Christ says the change will reduce barriers for Arizonans to receive the vaccine. Nearly 3 million people in Arizona, or about 40% of the state’s population, have received at least one dose of vaccine.
