Body Found Near Sunset Crater ID'd As Woman Missing Out Of Farmington

National Park Service

Coconino County authorities say the body of a woman found near Sunset Crater National Monument is a 27-year-old missing out of Farmington, New Mexico.

The county sheriff’s office says it used fingerprints to identify Sasha Krause.

The Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office continues to work to identify a cause of death, and the investigation is considered ongoing.

Sheriff’s officials say Krause’s body was discovered by a person camping last Friday afternoon near Highway 89.

She was last seen more than a month ago picking up items from the Farmington Mennonite Church in northwestern New Mexico.

Investigators worked through the night and into the next day before clearing the scene.

Sheriff’s officials are asking for the public’s assistance in the incident.

They say anyone who may have recently seen anything suspicious in the area of Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monument is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
