Officials at Grand Canyon National Park have recovered the body of a 59-year-old Scottsdale woman who slipped off the edge at the South Rim.
They say Maria Salgado Lopez fell about 100 feet from the west side of Mather Point Friday.
Authorities say she had been hiking off-trail and taking photographs with family when she accidentally slipped. An investigation is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
Grand Canyon officials encourage visitors to stay on trails and walkways and keep a safe distance from the rim while staying behind railings and fences at overlooks.
