Police in Flagstaff say an officer has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
They say officers conducted a welfare check Saturday and Jarrett Shughart was found dead at his home. Police say no other persons were at the home at the time officers arrived and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office has assumed the investigation of Shughart’s death. Shughart had been with the Flagstaff Police Department since October 2014. Police say he had served as a field training officer and was most recently assigned in a light-duty capacity due to a work-related injury.
