Officials at Grand Canyon National Park will reopen the North Rim Tuesday at 6 a.m. as a wildfire continues to burn in the area.
The North Rim will be open for day use and visitors are encouraged to be self-sufficient as services are limited. The North Rim Visitor Center and campground will remain closed along with the Grand Canyon Lodge, food and beverage services, the general store, and other amenities. The North Rim Backcountry Information Center is open but no new permits will be issued.
U.S. Highway 89A and State Route 67 have reopened.
The North Rim closed June 12 and crews have worked to contain the Mangum Fire for the last three weeks. It started on the Kaibab National Forest near the Rim and has grown to more than 71,000 acres now with about 60 percent containment.
Evacuations have been lifted but pre-evacuation orders remain on House Rock Road. Firefighters are facing continued red flag conditions Monday ahead of monsoon moisture in the forecast. Stage II fire restrictions remain in effect for all of Grand Canyon National Park.
