Navajo Nation health officials Sunday reported 73 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 but no new deaths.
President Jonathan Nez is urging tribal members and residents not to travel off the reservation or hold family gatherings to avoid spreading the virus.
"This invisible monster known as COVID-19 will continue to spread among our communities if we let our guard down and become complacent," said Pres. Nez in a press release. "Please make good decisions — wear a mask, stay home as much as possible, practice social distancing, wash your hands often, and avoid large crowds. Be safe and pray for your health and safety."
Nearly 12,000 people on the Navajo Nation have been infected with covid since the pandemic began and 581 have died. More than 60% have recovered. The Navajo Nation was a national hotspot for covid over the summer but weekend lockdowns and daily curfews and other safety measures helped flattened cases there.
