Navajo Nation CARES Funds Used For Special Duty Pay For Frontline/Essential Workers

Navajo Nation officials have approved portions of two separate resolutions addressing the use of federal CARES Act funding for the Tribe.

$20 million will be used for special duty pay for frontline workers and other essential personnel whose duties are substantially dedicated to mitigating or responding to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Another $10 million will be used to purchase Personal Protective Equipment for frontline workers and essential personnel, and an additional $10 million will be used to ensure facilities operated by the Navajo Nation are properly disinfected for returning employees and the public seeking government services. President Jonathan Nez also approved $10 million for food, water and basic necessities for tribal members and $2 million for computer hardware and software for government offices to improve tele-work capabilities.
