Navajo Nation Extendes State Of Emergency And Weekend Lockdowns

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer have signed an executive order to extend the Navajo Nation’s declaration of a state of emergency and the closure of government offices and entities due to the ongoing pandemic.

The closure has been pushed back until at least July 26th, 2020. The Navajo Department of Health has also issued another Public Health Emergency Order to implement full 57-hour weekend lockdowns for the rest of July. The lockdowns begin at sunset each Friday and lift at sunrise on Mondays. Additional weekend lockdowns may be extended into August. During a live town hall yesterday, President Nez presented data from the Department of Health that shows a steady flattening of the curve for COVID-19 cases, indicating the weekend lockdowns, daily curfews, requiring face coverings and other precautions are working.
