Navajo Nation health officials reported 135 new COVID-19 cases and eight more deaths Wednesday.
The tribe this week issued a three-week stay-at home lockdown order that’s in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week except for essential workers, in cases of emergency and to purchase necessary items.
President Jonathan Nez continues to urge residents to follow curfews and safety guidelines while remaining home.
"We do not have the law enforcement resources to regulate the lockdown around the clock, and we shouldn’t have to. Everyone needs to take this growing pandemic seriously and hold themselves and your family members accountable. Unfortunately, too many people don’t take this virus seriously until it hits their own family," said Nez in a press release.
More than 600 people on the Navajo Nation have now died from the virus and there have been more than 13,800 known infections.
Navajo leaders will hold an online town hall Thursday at 6 p.m. MST on the Nez-Lizer Facebook page.
