Navajo Nation Reports 21 Communities With Uncontrolled COVID-19 Spread

Ryan Heinsius

Navajo Nation officials yesterday reported 15 new known COVID-19 cases and one more death.

The tribe this week also identified 21 communities with uncontrolled spread of COVID, down from 25 last week.

Health workers continue to administer vaccines at drive-thru events and by appointment across the reservation. Navajo leaders recently set a new goal of administering 120,000 doses of vaccine by the end of the month after exceeding its initial goal of 100,000.

In all, more than 1,100 people on the Navajo Nation have died from COVID and almost 30,000 have been infected since the beginning of the pandemic.
