Northern Arizona Officials Lift Many Fire Restrictions After Rainfall

Officials in northern Arizona have lifted campfire restrictions after the region received significant rainfall in recent weeks.

The Coconino and Kaibab national forests rescinded fire bans put in place months ago because of the COVID-19 pandemic and drying conditions. In addition, Coconino County has also lifted fire restrictions on private lands in unincorporated areas, and the City of Flagstaff is again allowing charcoal grills and other such fires. However, open burning in the city is still prohibited and fire danger remains high.

Grand Canyon National Park officials have also lifted stage 2 fire restrictions allowing residents and visitors to again use charcoal grills and have campfires. The park is in stage 1 restrictions year-round, which limits campfires to established campgrounds.

Restrictions are still in place on many state lands and Bureau of Land Management territory north of the Grand Canyon. Stage 2 fire restrictions also remain in effect on the Navajo Nation.
