Oak Creek E. Coli Levels Safe After Sewage Spill

redrockscenicbyway.com

Sedona officials say initial water tests show E. coli levels in Oak Creek are below state and federal safety limits following a raw sewage spill Tuesday night.

Levels of the bacteria were still elevated but officials say the creek is safe for swimming. The readings were taken about 24 hours after the incident. A contractor, Kinney Construction Services, was replacing a sewage main along State Route 179 when up to 20,000 gallons of sewage was accidentally dumped into Oak Creek. Officials cordoned off the area and alerted residents and businesses. They’ll work with the Arizona Department of Health Services on any further cleanup efforts.
