Pump Failure Forces Further Water Restrictions On Grand Canyon North Rim

Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon National Park officials will keep the North Rim Campground closed to conserve water following a pump failure at Roaring Springs.

The entire North Rim will remain in conservation mode until the repair is completed and water storage tanks reach sustainable levels.

Park staff and others had already adopted water conservation measures on the North Rim before the pump failure. Portable toilets have replaced flush toilets and hotel staff has implemented low-water-use methods in cleaning rooms, among other measures.

Officials say they may need to close additional facilities to conserve water.
