Trump Defies Coronavirus Safety Guidelines To Woo Latino Voters In Arizona

Demonstrators supporting and opposing President Trump gathered outside a resort in Ahwatukee, Arizona, yesterday where he held a campaign event to court Latino voters.

Trump addressed an indoor crowd of mostly mask-less supporters, defying state emergency orders and his administration’s coronavirus guidelines as he holds rallies in battleground states. Arizona was long a Republican stronghold but Democrats have made inroads and it is now a top battleground. Democratic governors and local leaders in other states where Trump is campaigning during the pandemic have urged the president to reconsider the events, warning that he’s putting lives at risk. Trump and his team liken the gatherings to “peaceful protests” protected by the First Amendment.
