Abrupt changes from our recent mild and dry November weather are on the way. Two winter type storms are set to impact Arizona Thursday into Sunday. Storm one, seen off the California coast will usher in a much cooler and windy day on Thursday. Rain and snow showers will begin to develop Thursday afternoon and increase in coverage and intensity Thursday evening and overnight, with showers continuing into Friday. Snow levels will drop as low as 5500' with generally 2-5" of snow by Friday evening. A brief break in snow will occur Friday night before storm two quickly enters on it heels Saturday afternoon. This storm is much colder and equally as potent. Snow and rain showers will come down in earnest Saturday evening and overnight with snow falling as low as 4000' in elevation. Showers continue into Sunday morning. Between both these storms areas around the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Mogollon Rim Country and the White Mountains will be near a foot of total snowfall. Lower elevations will have received up to an inch of rainfall.
Travel will be difficult and hazardous across the high country throughout this period. The heaviest snow is expected Thursday night and again Saturday night. The NWS has issued Winter Weather Advisories and a Wind Advisory for the Little Colorado River Valley. Now is a good time to get your winter home and vehicle preparations in order.
