The commission that will redraw Arizona’s political district lines later this year on Tuesday chose a company to crunch Census data and create maps on a split vote that marked the second time the panel’s Democrats were outvoted.

Although Arizona was among one of the fastest-growing states during the last decade, its 7.1 million population was not enough to give it a 10th congressional seat.

Navajo Nation leaders are encouraging residents to respond to the 2020 Census.


Today a judge ruled the 2020 Census count will continue through October 31. Census takers are still working to get an accurate count in remote areas of Northern Arizona including tribal nations. Less than a quarter of households on the Navajo and Hopi nations have responded to the questionnaire by phone, mail or online, leaving Census takers to make up the difference by going door to door.
