Federal officials have issued preliminary permits for two hydro-storage proposals on the Little Colorado River. The projects would include four dams and four reservoirs east of Grand Canyon National Park. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports.

A new website tells stories from five Native leaders about their cultural and spiritual ties to the Grand Canyon. The images, videos, and audio clips gathered on the site are part of a larger effort to improve education about the Grand Canyon’s indigenous history. KNAU’s Melissa Sevigny spoke about the project with Sarana Riggs, program manager at the nonprofit Grand Canyon Trust.

Several national environmental organizations are trying to stop proposals for four dams on the Little Colorado River. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports, they’re urging federal officials to deny initial applications for the projects.

Environmental groups are urging the U.S. Forest Service to again reject a large development proposal near the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It follows the denial of a similar plan three years ago. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports.

The U.S. Forest Service is proposing to expand its list of projects that don’t require environmental review. The agency says the change is needed to make forest restoration among other things more efficient, but critics say it eliminates public involvement. KNAU’s Melissa Sevigny reports.
