Arizona authorities say an inmate at the state prison in Winslow is dead from an apparent suicide.


Coconino County corrections officials report half-a-dozen new coronavirus cases among inmates. It comes as known infections at the jail have remained relatively steady. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports.

The number of Maricopa County jail inmates who have tested positive for the coronavirus has increased sharply over the last five days.

The Coconino County Detention Facility in Flagstaff has two confirmed COVID-19 positive Detention Officers and one confirmed positive inmate.

Advocates for inmates say they are worried they could run out of time to persuade Governor Doug Ducey to avoid a larger Coronavirus outbreak by releasing some of the 42,000 people who live in close quarters behind bars.
