Arizona has the worst school counselor to student ratio in the US, at 903 kids per counselor. In Northern Arizona, that ratio is slightly higher, and the majority of districts don’t have a single counselor on staff. A recent report by the American School Counselor Association found Arizona is last in the nation in the number of K-12 students per counselor. The state's school districts averaged 905 students per counselor in the 2016-17 school year. That's more than 150 students higher than the second-worst state, Michigan, and more than triple what the ASCS recommends.
