A wildfire burning about 20 miles north of Flagstaff has grown to 5,000 acres with no containment. It’s burning in dry pine and juniper as firefighters contend with hot, windy conditions. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports.

It’s estimated that more than seven hundred thousand Native Americans in the U.S. are living without access to clean and reliable water.  A recent report from the Water & Tribes Initiative surveyed thirty tribes in the Colorado River Basin and found widespread problems with lack of water access and contaminated supplies. KNAU’s Melissa Sevigny spoke with the report’s lead author, Heather Tanana, a Navajo Nation citizen and assistant professor at the University of Utah.

Coconino National Forest firefighters are attempting to contain a wildfire about 20 miles northwest of Flagstaff that’s forced the closure of Highway 180 to the Grand Canyon. Officials say the Slate Fire has grown to about 2,200 acres with no containment reported yet. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports.
