John Wesley Powell set off to explore the Grand Canyon 150 years ago today. He’s remembered as a scientist and explorer, but not often as a person with a disability. Powell lost an arm during the Civil War but that didn’t stop him. Today Grand Canyon outfitters invite people with disabilities of all kinds to experience the Colorado River, as Powell did, from a boat.
