It’s Tuesday, June 8.  A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for northern Mohave County, according to the National Weather Service. Regional winds are expected to pick up Thursday with gusts reaching up to 40 mph; forecasters say the dry conditions can lead to a heightened risk of wildfire.

Slate Fire Grows, Prompts Highway Closure

Grand Canyon National Park officials tentatively plan to reopen the park’s eastern entrance in late May, but there’s sentiment in a small northern Arizona city that depends on tourism that sooner would be better.
