An Italian company and the Town of Tusayan have submitted a new proposal to the U.S. Forest Service for a development project near the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports, it’s similar to one rejected three years ago, but depends less on local groundwater.

This week the Trump administration announced revisions to the Endangered Species Act, which allow the government to present the economic costs of protecting a species. KNAU’s Melissa Sevigny reports, critics say the new rules will hasten extinctions of rare plants and animals.

Conservationists have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over oil and gas permits issued on federal land in Navajo and Apache counties. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports, they say officials failed to conduct proper environmental review.

Long before the Grand Canyon was a national park it was home to many Indigenous communities—some of whom still live there. This weekend that history will be highlighted during a special camping trip organized by the Sierra Club. The event is part of the ongoing centennial celebration of Grand Canyon National Park.
