Former Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake is backing Democrat Joe Biden for president.
Flake on Monday tried to make a case to conservatives to deny Donald Trump a second term on the opening day of the GOP convention. He decried a culture of name-calling, tribalism and conspiracy theories. He says: “Character matters. Decency matters. Civility never goes out of style.” Flake says Biden would restore decency, steady leadership and a healthy democracy. He was among 27 former Republican members of Congress who endorsed Biden. Flake could help Biden appeal to ticket-splitting Republicans, who have been key to Democrats' recent success in Arizona.
