Navajo Nation officials say eight communities on the reservation have uncontrolled spread of COVID-19.
According to the tribe, the newest numbers represent a consistent downward trend in reported cases from January when 75 communities reported uncontrolled spread. Health officials say the tribe has met the criteria to downgrade community spread from “level red - extensive very high” to “level orange - substantial high.”
In addition, there’s been a high rate of vaccinations on the Navajo Nation with more than 187,000 doses having been administered.
The Navajo Nation Tuesday reported a dozen new known COVID cases and one more death. In all, more than 1,200 people have died on the reservation from the virus and almost 30,000 have been infected.
