CAL Film Series: Hairspray!

CAL Film Series: Hairspray!

Hairspray | 1988 | Directed by John Waters

September 9 | 7 PM

This NAU tradition continues with Film screenings and discussions hosted by NAU’s own Paul Donnelly and Paul Helford on most Tuesday evenings in Cline Library Auditorium. This year we are celebrating directors on the outside of the mainstream. Free and Open to the Public

Hairspray was a pioneering midnight movie that moved cheesiness into the mainstream. Its a campy but surprisingly sweet film about teenager Tracy Turnblad’s dreams of dancing on a popular Baltimore TV show. The starring role is filled by Rikki Lake in her debut performance.

Set in the 1960s, the film was subversive in its work to tackle social issues such as segregation.

Rotten Tomatoes 98%
