Inkling by Kenneth Oppel is a fun illustrated adventure! Ethan has a cool dad- he's a famous comic book artist. The problem is that after a tragic family loss, Ethan's dad can't seem to draw anymore, or do much of anything else either.  Then Ethan gets stuck drawing a comic for a school project, and he can't admit that he doesn't have his dad's talent, no matter how much he wishes he did.  But when a magical ink-blot creation emerges from his dad's sketchbook, he makes a new plan to try and get things back on track.  For youth, grades 5-6.
