Prescott Writers: Cowboy Poetry

Prescott Writers: Cowboy Poetry

"Cowboy Poetry has a deep history and is still incredibly popular in the Southwest. In this presentation, Sally Bates, a singer, songwriter, novelist, and poet will share the origins of cowboy poetry, history of cowboy poetry in Prescott, techniques of writing cowboy poetry including key elements, and share some of her own poetry, how she became a cowboy poet.
Born in Prescott, Arizona, Sally Bates grew up in the company of working cowboys and their families, cherishing the lifestyle, culture, heritage and experiences. For several years she was an invited poet/singer to cowboy poetry gatherings in Nevada, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Utah and of course, Arizona. She was nominated female cowboy poet of the year through WMA three times in the early 1990’s. She has also been an integral part of the production of the Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering in Prescott for over 30 years.
Prescott Writers is hosted by Central Arizona Writers and presented with funding from the Friends of the Prescott Public Library."
