Downtown Films invites the Flagstaff community to a special screening of They/Them: One Climber’s Story on Sunday, July 28 at Theatrikos Theatre in downtown Flagstaff. Doors open at 6:30 PM, with the film beginning promptly at 7:00 PM, followed by a post-screening conversation with climber Lor Sabourin and directors Blake McCord and Justin Clifton.
Filmed in the sandstone canyons of Northern Arizona, They/Them is not a traditional climbing film. Directed by McCord and Clifton and produced by Patagonia Films, it offers an unfiltered look at the intersections of gender identity, mental health, athletic performance, and personal transformation. As Lor attempts to piece together a 600-foot climbing route containing some of the most difficult trad pitches in the region, they also share their lived experience with eating disorders, body dysphoria, trauma, and healing.
“I spent a huge part of my life feeling like I had to hide who I was,” Lor says in the film. They/Them is their way of stepping fully into the light, offering a story rooted in vulnerability, truth, and the search for belonging.
They/Them explores what it means to exist authentically in a world that isn’t always built to hold you. The film traces Lor’s early life as an athlete and survivor, their work as a mental health educator, and their ongoing efforts to create inclusive climbing spaces where others can thrive.
