"Sweetwater" - Film Screening

The Northern Arizona Film Society brings the best of independent cinema to our community, showcasing films from renowned festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, Venice, Toronto, and more.

Join us for a special screening of the film "Sweetwater," the inspiring true story of the NBA's first Black basketball player. Nathaniel Sweetwater Clifton was born to change the game. Widely regarded as the father of modern basketball, this Harlem Globetrotters legend overcame a lifetime of adversity and discrimination to become the first African American player in the NBA.

Written and directed by Martin Guigui, the film premiered on March 31, 2023, at the 40th Annual Boston Film Festival and went on to win the Golden Pier Indie Feature Award at the Cannes Film Awards. Starring: Everett Osborne, Richard Dreyfuss, Kevin Pollak, Jeremy Piven, and Cary Elwes.
