Ukraine: Democracy and Authoritarianism in Eastern Europe

Ukraine: Democracy and Authoritarianism in Eastern Europe

This round table brings together experts in history, international affairs, and political violence to discuss the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Topics of discussion will include the historical relationship between Ukraine and Russia, Moscow's justifications for the conflict, war crimes in occupied Ukraine, and the comparison of the Ukrainian refugee crisis with that in Afghanistan in 2021. Our speakers will be Dr. Josh Hodil (History), Dr. Hakeem Naim (History), Dr. Bjorn Krondorfer (Martin Springer Institute, Dr. Gretchen Gee (Politics and International Affairs). After an initial round of questions among themselves, round table participants will open the floor to the audience. We highly encourage all to come ready with questions about the conflict in Ukraine. This event is free and open to the public. Details on how to attend via Zoom are available here. https://ce.nau.edu/lesson/ukraine/
