Diamondbacks Unaware Of All-Star Pitcher's Second Career As Rodeo Roper

The Arizona Diamondbacks knew Madison Bumgarner lives on a ranch but were unaware of his recently discovered side career as a rodeo competitor.

A story published by The Athletic on Sunday revealed that Bumgarner has been participating in rodeo events under the alias Mason Saunders and even won more than $26,000 in a team-roping competition in December.

Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen says he won’t comment on Bumgarner's contract or if he's allowed to continue to compete in rodeo.

Manager Torey Lovullo says he wants players to be safe but adds the rodeo story is “a non-issue.”
