Fallen White Mountain Apache Police Officer Laid To Rest

whitemountainapache.org

Funeral services for a White Mountain Apache Police Officer killed in a shootout last month were held in Whiteriver over the weekend.

26-year-old police officer David Kellywood was killed in the Pinetop-Lakeside area during a confrontation with a suspect while responding to reports of shots fired at a home.

Authorities say Kellywood was with the department for only 9 months when he was killed. He leaves behind a wife and two young sons.

Officer Kellywood's body was transported to Whiteriver last Thursday to lie in state ahead of the funeral.  He was buried on Saturday.

Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings to fly at half-staff shortly after the shooting to honor Kellywood.
