Veteran Jockey To Be Honored At Memorial Service

Rillito Park Racetrack/Tucson

A celebration of the life of horse racing jockey Richard Gamez is planned for this weekend.  Gamez died Sunday after falling from his horse and getting trampled by another horse during a race at Rillito Park Racetrack in Tucson.

Gamez was leading in the fifth race when his horse stumbled and he was thrown from the saddle.

The Rillito Park Foundation reported Gamez was trampled by at least one trailing horse and taken to Banner University Medical Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Foundation President Jaye Wells says the horse he was riding was not injured.

Gamez was 66.
