In response to the coronavirus pandemic Arizona Public Service has announced it will not shut off power to homes that are overdue on their electric bill. KNAU’s Melissa Sevigny reports.
The utility has also promised to waive late fees, and has set up a new Customer Support Fund. Residential or business customers who have experienced financial hardship due to the pandemic can apply to the fund for a one-time credit.
Lily Quezada, APS spokesperson, says, "This is a rapidly evolving situation and our focus will remain on keeping our customers, our communities, and our employees safe, and keeping the power on."
Quezada says people can call the customer service line to learn about the support fund, but should expect long wait times due to the volume of calls.
Arizona Public Service does not expect any disruptions to power. The utility is following strict health protocols for its critical employees and all nonessential personnel are working remotely.
