Phoenix Police Commander Killed, 2 Officers Wounded In Shooting

Phoenix Police Department

Phoenix police say one of their commanders was killed and two other officers were wounded as they responded to a domestic dispute Sunday evening.

Police said in a tweet that Commander Greg Carnicle and two female officers were called to a home in north Phoenix over a dispute between roommates when the suspect refused to cooperate and shot them.

Phoenix media confirmed Monday morning Carnicle was killed in the shooting and had been with the Phoenix Police Department for 31 years.

The conditions of the other officers are not known.

But the department said they are expected to recover.  News outlets report the shooting happened just after 7 p.m. on Sunday and the scene remained active early Monday morning.

Governor Doug Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Monday, March 30, 2020, to honor Commander Carnicle.

Authorities say the suspect was shot and died at the scene.   It's unclear whether the unidentified suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot or if it came from a police officer.
