Crews Near Containment Of Wildfire Threatening Cave Creek

Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management

Firefighters have gained the upper hand on a brush fire north of Phoenix that was threatening to town of Cave Creek.

Crews have contained 70% of the East Desert Fire and officials say they’re preparing to lift evacuation orders Tuesday night for the more than 250 people who were told to leave as a precaution. Some of the residents live less than a mile from the flames and were evacuated as the wind-whipped fire grew to about 1,500 acres.

It’s believed to be human-caused and is under investigation. It started Sunday on private property and progressed to within miles of the Tonto National Forest.
