Arizona health officials are reporting an increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases across the state. Navajo Nation officials also report new cases and deaths.
The Department of Health Services reported 790 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 with the total number of known deaths jumping to 903 over the weekend. The department says hopitalizations due to the coronavirus are also on the rise, with 975 as of Saturday, up nearly 50 since Friday. The increase comes as Governor Doug Ducey lifted the stay-at-home order, allowed businesses to reopen and increased statewide testing for the virus.
The Navajo Department of Health reports 105 newly confirmed cases of the virus, with more than 10 new deaths. That pushes the numbers to more than 5,200 known positive cases and 241 known deaths as of Saturday night. Tribal officials say preliminary reports show 8 health care facilities indicate more than 1,800 people have recovered from the coronavirus, with more reports still pending.
