Play Us A Tune: Making Music In The Pandemic

capturedive.us

During this time of separation and social distancing, there is one thing that can unite nearly all humans on the planet…music. Like all gig musicians, Nolan McKelvey hasn’t played an “in-person” concert since the pandemic hit. But he has been writing and recording songs for a new album. In this week’s installment of Play Us a Tune, Nolan performs Dark Times, a song about searching for hope when it seems out of reach.

NM: This COVID-19 business has obviously affected many people and businesses. First and foremost, thanks so much to the frontline workers who are facing this head-on.

As a musician, this situation is dramatically affecting the way we do what we do, but all we can do is adapt. So, I’ve been live streaming shows with Megan Neff on my Facebook page and writing and recording a lot of songs. So, there’s been a lot of creative energy that’s gone into these new songs.

I’m going to offer you up one of them now. It’s called Dark Times, and it’s one of the first songs I wrote after the pandemic started. It’s one of those songs that is trying to keep a positive attitude during these difficult times. You’ll hear that in the chorus.
